Overall

Overall, we recognised quite a large range between the various industries in Norfolk. The highest average ranking was for B2B businesses that provide high value services. This is because commonly they are known to invest more into their SEO and AI Search Visibility.

A common issue we recognised across the majority of businesses is that they lack the files that AI need to crawl the site. This stops you turning up in the AI search results.

Averages ran from 43 for Hospitality & Tourism to 66 for Professional & B2B Services, and no sector averaged above 70. Even the strongest group left a third of the available score on the table.

Inconsistent business details on third party sites came up in four of the five sectors. When a name, address or phone number differs between the website, Google and the directories, search engines and AI tools are less confident about which version is correct. This was the main reason Hospitality & Tourism scored lowest, where conflicting addresses and naming were common.

Mobile responsiveness was listed as a strength in almost every sector. Most Norfolk businesses have the basics of a modern website in place, and the gaps sit behind the scenes: structured data, internal linking and the depth of information on service pages.

Orphaned pages and thin content appeared in sectors with the most pages to manage, such as Professional Services and Retail. Pages that are not linked from anywhere else on the site are harder for search engines to find, and pages without enough detail struggle to rank for the services they describe.

Many of these issues are quick to fix. Adding structured data, correcting directory listings and linking existing pages together would lift most of the scores we recorded without rebuilding the site.
